The morning began with stories. Children, parents, teachers, and volunteers sat together to talk about the places they call home and the knowledge passed between generations. Those conversations became the starting point for a day that connected creative learning with practical care for the community.
Rather than bringing a fixed classroom lesson, the Kunig Filipinas team worked with local partners to shape activities around the community’s own culture and environment. Children drew familiar plants, mapped important places, and shared ideas about what they want their community to look like in the future.
Learning rooted in place
Creative exercises led into discussions about food security and forest restoration. Families shared the ways local trees support daily life, while volunteers helped turn those observations into activities children could explore through color, movement, and play.
